the post with no name

Posted on March 11, 2010

I could not think of a name for this post.  My creative juice’s have decided to run and hide.

This family is comfort.  This family is fun.

Each time I have a session with them I feel at home; as comfortable as your favorite pair of jeans.  One of the amazing perks with what I do is I get to bond with people.  Each family is different but I always walk away feeling a bit more connected with each client.  This family was one of my first clients, so I hold a special place for them in my heart.

Karen is the type of girl I can sit down on the couch with, chat about anything and have fun; plus we have the same tastes in books ~ love chating about the stories and what parts we loved in the book.  Joe is one of the funniest people I have ever been around.  I love his sense of humor and his timing on deliver is perfection.    Karen’s dad joined up for this session and he is as much fun as she is.  You can see how much love he has for Ms. Sydney by looking at the way he looks at that little girl.

A purple hat and amazing curls

Posted on March 4, 2010

Little kids are the best to photograph in my eyes.  They may not always do what you ask them but you can see their true self in each frame.  Part of having pictures taken when your kids are small is to document who they are.  They will not sit still, may not smile and more than likely will try to run off before I am done.  But that is life and those little things make the pictures that much better.

Baby Izzie had this amazing purple hat on for our photo shoot.  Purple is my favorite color so I was so excited to see her and her sister, Rian, in this color.  Izzie was pretty much bald under the hat (another one of my favorites, bald babies) but sister Rian has the most delicious curls you have ever seen.  Just picture her running and all those curls bouncing up and down; so  sweet.

Kim and Bo, you have one beautiful family; thank you for letting me spend the morning with you and your girls.

my first session in the rain

Posted on January 26, 2010

Yep, I did this session in the rain.  It started raining about 5 mins before the session started.  There was no way I could call my client so I meet them and we decided to give it a shot.  Not sure if Luke was very happy with it (sorry!!)

What saved us were the trees.  We all got a bit wet but my camera stayed dry (thank goodness).  It was also foggy but that gave some of the pictures a cool feeling.  I would love to shot in the fog again.  Cathy, thanks for letting me have shelter under your umbrella!  And Luke, sorry about the rain, if I could have turned it off I would have.

pink happy feet

Posted on January 19, 2010

Another session involving a cupcake.  I can’t seem to get enough!!!  Little fingers dipped in cream cheese frosting on a polka dotted plate, it screams “take my picture”.  Kate just celebrated her 1st birthday; I can’t believe I have been taking pictures of her for almost a year.  She has a smile that lights up a room and never stops making me laugh.

I love that this family has matching pink shoes.  They are a family that likes to have fun and it show.  I was about to jump up and down when I saw the cute little dress they had Kate in; once again I only have boys and I drool at cute little girl outfits.  We did this session down by the water and Kate loved watching the rain drops hit the water, she was mesmerized.  I was happy with the fact that we were covered, this allowed me to capture her fascination while staying dry.

Happy Birthday Ms. Kate; I hope it was a great one.

last session in 2009

Posted on January 8, 2010

I did my last session for 2009 on the 30th.  Three great things happened: 1. The weather was perfect 2. The lighting and color were amazing  3. The family was awesome.

They were here from the East Coast spending time with family.  The mom is the sister-in-law to a dear friend of mine.  It was nice to finally meet after hearing about them for so many years.

The shoot started out with Connor sleeping and Alexis worried that her shoes would get dirty.  She was wearing her sparkly party shoes, so cute.  After a while of talking and throwing rocks in the water, the kids were ready to work.  By the time we left, my pockets were full of rocks; Alexis and Megan kept finding ones for me; how cool, I love it when the kids like me.  It would be awful if they ran from me.

Thanks for making my last session in 2009 one I will not forget.

welcome to january

Posted on January 3, 2010

How is it possible that it’s 2010?  Where on earth did last year go?

This is my first post for the new year.  Feels good to get back to taking pictures.  I took most of December off.  Needed the break to recharge my batteries and reconnect with my family.  November was crazy, but in a good way.  I will be doing a few things differently this year than last, but I will post about that at a later time.

The day after Christmas I had a session with a great family.  It was nice to get out of the house for a bit and photography a wonderful group.  The sun was out but the temperature was low.  I feel sorry at times when I am out side bundled up in 5 layers with gloves; I am asking people to sit on the freezing ground and look as if it were 70 degrees out.  I think they did a pretty darn good job pulling it off.  I didn’t hear one complaint!

the cold will not stop us

Posted on December 15, 2009

We may have been rained out the day before, but there was not way we were going to let the cold cancel our session, and I am so happy we made it!

I fell in love with this family.  There little girls are simply adorable; mom and dad are madly in love and grandma and grandpa were sports.  Photography gives me a change to capture people on their own level.  Chatting during the session not only eases everyone but helps me get to know them an a deeper level.

Nick and Elizabeth were great.  I would love to have to do a couples session with them.  The energy that bounces off them makes me want to try to capture it.  And their girls, look at the baby’s boots, way to cute.  Callyn, the oldest, was super sweet.  If the weather was a bit nicer, I could have ran behind her all day.  The energy that kids have makes me wonder where does it go and why can’t I still have some of that at my age.

life with boys

Posted on December 13, 2009

This family is very similar to mine; they have two boys that are spaced apart about the same as my boys.  We started the session out at their home.  Nolan was playing trains, something my 3 year old is obsessed with as well.  We had a bit of a conversation discussing all the trains in his collection.

Logan was one super great baby.  I never heard a peep out of him; and those eyes, they are amazing.  The last picture that I posted makes me smile.  Look at his expression!  I wonder what he was thinking.

Started to edit this session and I have fallen in love with these images.  I had to share some; more to come in the next few weeks.  Penni, your kids are amazing!

i could have posted them all

Posted on December 7, 2009

Yep, I so wanted to post all the pictures from this session but didn’t think 40+ images would fit in one post.  This family is beautiful!!!

They decided to get together and have a “family portrait” taken for their parents for Christmas.  I so wish I could see the mom’s face on Christmas morning when she unwraps this present.  As a mom, I think this is one of the best gifts that one could get.  How thoughtful; taking the time out to get all the siblings together and making this happen.  This will be a top gift for mom (and dad) for many years to come.

Not only are these kids cute they are super nice and down to earth.  We had a bit of a walk during our session and it was fun to get to know them. If I had a chance, I would love to talk to their parents and ask them what their secret is; how do you raise kids to turn out this good?

hello christmas

Posted on December 4, 2009

The moment I saw the first picture in this posting,  the saying “hello Christmas” popped in my head.  Not sure why, but it did.  And look as his face ~ can something be any more precious!?!

I have done several sessions with this family and each time I walk away happy.  You can tell how much they love each other and their little boy.  He is one lucky baby; the love is pouring out of his parents and he is soaking it all in.   He is also walking ~ 10 months old and walking!  I had a blast chasing him around, little ones can be a very good workout.

At the beginning of our session, Katie gave me a card.  When I got home I opened it.  She had made me the sweetest “thank you” card and had written some very nice things for me.  It may have seemed small to her while she made my card, but is was huge to me. Thanks for making my day; your card is tucked away with my important papers.

a shoot with swings

Posted on December 2, 2009

I enjoy letting families play during our sessions.  This puts everyone at ease and enables me to capture moments that only come out when people are relaxed.  Elizabeth Park has a great playground and during the middle of our shoot we all headed over there to burn off some energy.  Plus it was very cold out and it was nice to get the body worked up and produce some heat.

I basically spend the weekend with part of this family; did the main family on Saturday and then had another session with Katie on Sunday (those pictures will be posted soon).  Great family + great energy = a very fun shot.  With clients like the Nuessen’s it makes my job so easy!

glitter shoes make me smile

Posted on November 27, 2009

Every girl wants to wear shoes that glitter, but once you hit 12, it’s just not as cute.

Thank goodness these little ones have a while till they hit 12!  Cuteness x 3 (in the spring there will be 4).  Yep, mama is expecting girl #4!  This couple was so fun to work with.  They had a smile on there face the whole time.    I just wanted to be around them to learn their secret and hoped some of their energy would rub off on me.

Look as their little girls, so, so sweet.  I can imagine what the scene in their home will be like in 10 years but I bet they wouldn’t have it any other way.  Thanks Stephanie for letting me meet your wonderful family.  I can’t wait to see the new family addition in the spring.

the coolest place

Posted on November 23, 2009

My friend Amy found this spot for her family pictures.  She visited the place a few days before our session and showed me the pictures that she took.  All I can say is that I started to drool.  This place was so flipping cool!!!!

It’s an old dairy farm that has been abandoned for many, many, many years.  The colors, the lines, the stories these buildings could tell just amazed me.  Amy and her family were great.  They knew exactly what they wanted and were open to whatever I wanted to try.  It was a great afternoon spent doing something I love with wonderful people ~ thanks you guys!!!

twice the energy

Posted on November 16, 2009

Twin boys the day after Halloween will run circles around you.

I did a session for my dear friend Stacy and her family.  Kyle and Marcus are good friends of my son Griffin.  I love hanging out with them.  They always seem to put a smile on my face and make me feel exhausted by watching their energy bounce off of each other.  These two love to climb trees; we ran across a few and they were hanging on them like monkeys.

Mike and Stacy are such a warm and giving couple.  Every time I am with them, they make me stop, slow down and appreciate their calmness.  I wish I could bottle up their positive attitudes and use it on the days I need an extra boost.  How can I thank you for making such a big impression on me and my families life?  I hope I am able to repay you in some way.
